How DoorDash won

DoorDash’s growth is INSANE

  • Founded ~ 10 years ago

  • With $120k in capital

  • Competing against giants like Uber and GrubHub

10 years later…

  • America’s BIGGEST player in delivery

  • $50B public market cap

Their head of Growth Marketing, Andy Wells, was someone I hired right out of college at my previous company, Ampush.

He was one of my first 10 hires. He joined after graduating from Dartmouth and teaching in China for two years. He was with us for 6 years and played a very critical role inside Ampush. He ran ads, managed teams, and negotiated big deals.

Eventually, he was ready to spread his wings. I called Tony Xu who was a friend and CEO/Co-Founder of DoorDash, and said: one of my best people is ready to leave.

He got the job and has gone on to do amazing things. He helped DoorDash grow from $300 million in revenue to $8.9 billion.

I’m going to get on a Zoom with him to ask him how DoorDash did it, what’s working for them now, and what he remembers about the old days of working for me.

As you can see, this is a special relationship.

I thought it’d be fun to have some of my newsletter readers join the Zoom.

(If hold your spot and can't make it, I’ll send you a recording.)
